Terms of Membership

By creating an account, you agree to the Terms of Membership to {board_title} outlined below.
Membership in this community is a privilege, not a right. Registering confirms that you have read and understood the expectations and that you intend to uphold the standards set forth. If you are not willing to do so, this may not be the right community for you.

We expect that all members of our community will help us to uphold these values and make our community a place where everyone feels safe and supported. If you have any questions or concerns about these rules, please do not hesitate to reach out to staff.

Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Policies

While historical settings may reflect periods of prejudice or inequality, out of character, we do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. This includes, but is not limited to, race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, religion, age, or political alignment.

Harassment also includes DM’ing members with passive-aggressive, rude, insulting, or threatening messages, participating in anonymous vent blogs about members or the site, cornering people into forced conversations about negativities in life, and in general, not respecting clearly stated personal boundaries.

This community is LGBTQ+ as well as culturally and ethnically inclusive.

Age Requirement for Membership

This community is intended for mature adult writers. All members must be 21 years of age or older to join.
Please note: any form of mature content involving a player who is a minor (under 18) is illegal under U.S. law, regardless of the age of their character. Writers found to be underage will be removed from the community until they are old enough to join.

Prohibited Content

Writing explicit content involving minors and bestiality is prohibited.
Backstories may include the alluding to such content, but may not be actively played out.

We encourage the reporting of all written content on the site, and we will not tolerate violations of this policy.

Mature Content

This community allows for adult themes in character writing that are not otherwise prohibited above. This includes violence, all forms of sexuality, language, gore, drug use, smoking, mental health, physical health, pregnancy-related issues, discrimination, and offensive slang.

This does not give writers permission to carry out their personal grudges, political views, or discriminate or harass writers passively aggressively. It is simply an allowance for writers to consensually explore darker themes in this environment.

We expect that all writers use trigger warning tags in thread titles, above posts, and/or when tagging in Discord so that individuals who do not wish to see this content can avoid it.
[M] for that gray area where it is not a trigger, but maybe not fully Safe for Work
[S] for Sexual Content
[V] for Violence and Gore
[TW] for all other forms of Trigger warnings

We follow the 80/20 rule, of 80% story and 20% smut content, provided it flows with the story. We have no expectations that writers engage in smut, and believe everyone has the right to fade-to-black based on their comfort levels and preferences.
If you have more interest in smut at a greater percentage, this may not be the community for you.

Positivity

Our world is absolutely crazy now, and we live very adult lives with full-time jobs, children, spouses, extended family, social obligations, and other things in life that occupy our time as well as can get us down. We have a designated place in our Discord to talk about these things that just need to be vented about and get some friendly hugs and support.

That being said, we really want to encourage that the negative side of our daily lives not be aired out in the other public channels or in unsolicited DMs with members unless they have explicitly permitted you, stating they have the space for you right now. Remember that while you're going through a hard time, maybe they are too, and you are going to be the cherry on top of their bad day. Practice being the sunshine in each other's lives.

If you do need to vent with a friend in DM, always start with “Hey, do you have the space for me to talk about this/ vent right now?” and respect their answer.

Writing Expectations

All Writers should follow standard roleplay etiquette, including being respectful and considerate towards other players, communicating clearly and openly.

We have no rules on word count or style. However, it is average practice in the community for 300+ words, past tense, 3rd person.

We expect all members to read their writing partner’s posts carefully and respond in character, reflecting the personality and voice shown on their profile. Effort should be made in spelling, grammar, and sentence structure; however, no one will be judged harshly for occasional mistakes.

Activity Checks

We do not do activity checks in any formal capacity. You are in charge of how active you intend to be. Understand that some writers may move faster or slower, as well as ebb and flow based on their time availability.

Inactive accounts and claim management

A member is considered inactive if they have not posted in a month without informing the community of their expected absence across all character accounts. At this time, faceclaims and other claims can be requested to be released for use. Staff will check in with that writer to see if there is an intention to be active again or not, and make a decision on the release accordingly.

A member will be archived after 3 months of being inactive, or if they leave the community discord. Their faceclaims and other claims will automatically be released for use, and the member may be removed from Discord if they are showing they are clearly inactive with no intention to be active.

Active Writers but Inactive Characters

If you no longer have muse for a character or the character is inactive for 1 month, the claims may be flagged as ‘Inactive,’ allowing others to request them to be released.
During this time, staff have the discretion to speak with writers about the release of that character’s claims without any negative impact on the rest of their account, characters, or ability to make new characters until they begin to post on that character again.
If a notice of absence is posted in advance, all characters on the writer’s account as a whole are not subject to inactivity on claims until one month after their return post date. TBD or Unknown return dates will be honored for up to 30 days, and then the clock begins for that 1 month.

Writers who consistently post once a month just to hold the character claims but are not actively engaging in plots like they are with other characters that are clearly just trying to hold claims are left to staff discretion to keep marked inactive or released.

The best practice is if you are having a hard time or no more muse for a character, that you ask for them to be archived and release the claims to not stall other plots or hoard faceclaims.

Flow of In Character Time

We do not move month to month in real time. The community started in a specific month and year, and threads progress as they progress.

Our current board month is the month in which the majority of threads are currently in. This allows us to explore more natural flows of time without skipping around or doing one thread interaction a month and having to talk through all other interactions offscreen or assuming characters didn't see each other when they likely would have in significant ways.

It also gives us the room to focus on our real lives without stressing over getting that next post in which is known to kill muses.

Communicate Clearly

Roleplay relies on strong communication. Text can make it hard to convey tone or humor, leading to misunderstandings, the #1 cause of drama. Be honest about plot progress, emotions, and availability. Silence breeds anxiety, so let your partners and the community know if you'll be away or if you are just not feeling something. Vice versa, actively check in with your partners, ask the hard questions if you have a feeling something is wrong, and they are uncomfortable speaking up first.

Listen Actively

Active listening means being open when your partner or anyone in the community shares their feelings or needs. Avoid becoming defensive. Remember, this is a collaborative writing hobby.

Take these conversations as opportunities to find a way that works for both of you. If needed, part ways respectfully so that you both can continue enjoying the writing process.

Ease Anxiety & Imposter Syndrome

Most writers struggle with anxiety or impostor syndrome, feeling disconnected or doubting their writing. Even the most experienced writers experience this! Communication and active listening help bridge gaps and create a safe, supportive environment for everyone.

Be Inclusive

It's easy to get caught up in your own plots and characters, but it’s important to engage with others, even if you’re not actively writing with them. Chatting with the community and helping new members get involved make this a safe and welcoming place.

Get creative in connecting characters and plots in unique ways. Be a supporting character in someone else’s story, and others will return the favor. Stay open to diverse connections, not just romantic pairings, for a more dynamic writing experience as you, and others, will find it more rewarding long term.

Patience with New & Niche Plots

You may be the first writer with a character in a unique plot where others may not immediately fit. Whether it’s a predominantly female environment with no men, a queer character in a primarily straight setting, or a character in an isolated scenario like an asylum or in mourning. These plots may take time to find the right partners or more active engagement in plotting. They absolutely have a place in the community, and they can work if you give them the time and effort needed to establish, provided that you remain open-minded to unique ways to build connections you might not initially be engaged with.

Stay active, be patient, and invite others to join. Your niche plot or character may inspire someone new to participate, helping to build a more diverse and expansive community.

Roleplay Community Negativi-Tea Blogs

We believe in putting positivity in our community. If someone is found to be participating in the RPC Tea blogs of any kind where they hide beyond anonymity to speak negatively about writers, they will be removed from the community. Hard Stop. Do not bring that energy here.

We ourselves are not roaming the tea blogs, reading or posting, but we are very aware of their existence. We are not eying our members for it, nor pointing fingers. This rule stands in the case someone brings us screenshots proving that members admit that they have posted on the blogs to instigate hate and negativity towards members or this community at large. If you plan to engage with such platforms, this is not the community for you.

We believe in open communication, treating each other with respect, extending grace, and taking responsibility. For all matters that you cannot personally handle should be reported to the staff. If you do not like the final decision, it's time to exercise empathy, self-care (such as taking an RP break), and forgiveness. If you cannot do that, then this is not the community for you.

Community Use of AIGen Rules

AI is being rapidly integrated into society, and there is little to no way to avoid its use in some aspects of our lives. You are already using it in the form of spelling and grammar check applications. However, it has now come to a time when rules need to be laid out for the use of the creative world.

What is AIGen? They are platforms or applications that use AI to generate information from text to visual media, such as Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and more.

This community has a positive outlook on the use of AI in our lives, and we do not care if you use it in any capacity of your personal life, or inside our Discord server with generated art. However, we have regulations on the following:

Acceptable Uses of AI

  • Using AI applications such as Grammarly for spelling, grammar, and proper sentence structure correction.
  • Using AI as a live dictionary or thesaurus for looking up words and their definitions.
  • Using AI for a general soundboard of ideas when you're struggling, but only for ideas.
  • Using AI to help accent your dialogue for foreign characters (this is not terribly different from using accent generators).
  • Using AI to translate between languages. Google Translate is far more accurate, but it generally follows the same concept.
  • Using AI as a jumping-off point for research; however, AI is highly inaccurate for research, and you should always seek scholarly resources and show respect when AI is wrong or unsupported.

Unacceptable Uses of AI

  • Using AI to generate content or posts, including small things like partial paragraphs and dialogue.
  • This strips the whole reason we are here to write together. It is not authentic and can make people feel disheartened, underappreciated, and even feel like they are poor writers. This has no place in a writing community.
  • Using AI to re-write your posts ‘better’. Just because you wrote the prompt does not make it acceptable. Doing this strips even your personal style out of a post, and is definitely noticeable.
  • Using AI to scan the written content of other writers for any reason. Please do not give AI other people’s creative products. You are teaching AI with their material, and this is a violation of plagiarism.
  • Using AI verbatim for research. AI is highly inaccurate when it comes to research. While it can be a great jumping-off point, all research should be backed by scholarly resources, and respect should be shown when AI is wrong or unsupported.

Due to the massively common AI-generated words and websites that help scan for AI-generated content, we always know when someone is using AI.

Please always write 100% of your posts yourself and edit them yourself. If you use AI to assist your editing, make sure that it isn't replacing your content with its own and that it is only assisting in grammar and spelling.
If you are using information directly from a website or resource that is not from AIGen without being rewritten in your own way, it should be cited.

Those reported to be potentially using AI will be scanned through AI checkers. If they are found to be using AI, they will have one warning to stop. They will be monitored afterward to ensure that they have in fact stopped. If there is a second report or notice of AI use scanned and confirmed, the Writer’s membership in the community will be suspended.

Contact Staff

If a situation escalates and communication doesn’t resolve the issue, don’t hesitate to reach out to staff. Even if it’s just to make us aware of what's going on, we’re here to help. This doesn't mean someone will automatically get in trouble, and it also doesn’t mean we’ll just stand by. Every situation is handled with care and judged on a case-by-case basis.

If you’re experiencing a problem with someone, it’s possible others are as well. If you see something, say something, but please do so privately. Publicly calling people out in group chats is not allowed and can harm the community atmosphere.

If you are not having an issue with a writer, but are having issues with posts or profiles (For example, alarming content, AI use, or content you feel requires a trigger warning) you may use the Report system on the board. Please be descriptive in your reasons for reporting, and it will be reviewed and handled on a case-by-case basis.

Respecting Staff

Respect for the admin and staff is an essential part of being a member of this community. Without them, this space would not exist. Staff not only volunteer their time to keep the community running smoothly, but also personally cover the ongoing costs of hosting and maintaining it, without asking anything in return from members.

As you participate, remember that staff are real people. They have full lives, bad days, and limited time, just like everyone else. Often, they are managing complex or difficult matters behind the scenes so that the visible parts of the community remain welcoming and peaceful. Treat them as you would any fellow writer: with kindness, patience, and respect. Give them space when needed, and grace when things go wrong. Like anyone else, they are capable of both mistakes and meaningful accountability.

The role of the admin and staff is to support a safe, creative environment for all and play Game Master for events to keep things fun. When issues arise that fall outside of the written rules, they reserve the right to respond in ways that protect the integrity and well-being of the community as a whole.
If you ever have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

How Terms of Membership are Enforced

All terms of membership are enforced to ensure a safe and respectful environment. However, we understand that life isn’t black and white. Some situations may be clear-cut, while others require more investigation, conversation, and staff discretion. While rules are firm, terms of membership are more flexible as some situations may call for adapting role-play standards to resolve issues fairly and be able to address gray areas.

In this community, we value open, transparent communication and believe in hearing all sides before making decisions. Our priority is maintaining the safety, comfort, and integrity of the community, ensuring fairness for all while protecting the space we’ve created.

At all times, staff reserve the right to make the best decision for the community.

Role-play Essentials

These are universal guidelines that apply across most role-play communities. While they may not be strictly enforced by staff, they are socially upheld to foster a respectful, creative, and collaborative environment. Following these essentials helps ensure a positive experience for everyone involved. Obvious breaches of these may lead to staff intervention to uphold the advanced standards of the community.

Godmodding

Creating characters with unrealistic abilities or changing the rules of the role-play to benefit your character is considered godmodding. This includes altering your character's personality or backstory to manipulate situations or influence others. This disrupts the balance of the role-play and limits other players' ability to enjoy a fair, collaborative experience. Stay true to your character's established traits and respect the limitations of the world and your character’s abilities.

Powerplaying

Controlling another player's character without their consent, including making decisions or forcing outcomes, is a violation of collaborative storytelling. Always allow other players the freedom to control their own characters and make their own decisions. Or, communicate with your partner about what their character may do if need be.

Metagaming

Using out-of-character knowledge to guide in-character actions creates an unfair advantage and breaks immersion. Keep in-character knowledge and out-of-character knowledge separate to maintain the integrity of the narrative.

Retconning

Retconning, or altering past events in the story, is generally discouraged as it can disrupt continuity and affect the experience of others. However, it can be necessary in certain situations, such as when a partner leaves, communication breaks down, or a plot needs to move forward. When retconning is required, communicate with all involved players to ensure everyone is aligned, has input on the adjustments, and has the option to disconnect their character if needed. Retconning should always be a thoughtful, collaborative process, used only when necessary to maintain the integrity of the role-play.

Content Neglect

Neglect occurs when a player ignores or selectively responds to the actions, dialogue, or contributions of other characters, choosing only what benefits their own character. This behavior disrupts the collaborative nature of role-play, as every player’s contribution is essential to the flow of the story. If you need to make a response more concise, it’s better to briefly acknowledge what you’re responding over, rather than ignoring it altogether. Show your partner that you’ve read their post and valued it. When in doubt, communicate with your partner about how best to handle the scene, ensuring everyone feels included and respected.

Hijacking/Stonewalling

Hijacking or stonewalling occurs when a player takes over a thread, making their character the center of attention or driving the narrative in a direction that serves only their personal agenda. Every thread has a purpose, and it’s important to respect the original intent and goals of the story, even if your character isn’t the main focus. Role-play is a collaborative effort where every character plays a part. Disregarding the overarching plot or the contributions of others is disrespectful and disrupts the flow of the story. Instead, find ways for your character to contribute meaningfully without overpowering the narrative. Always be mindful of the story's purpose and the goals of your fellow players.

Muse Fixating

While it’s natural to get deeply invested in a particular character or plot, focusing solely on one thread or partner for days or weeks can leave other players feeling undervalued. This behavior isn’t wrong, but it’s important to ensure that all of your partners feel equally appreciated and that no one is left behind. Try to balance your time across multiple threads, spreading the joy of role-play to keep the wider story moving. If you're struggling to maintain this balance or need more time with a specific character or plot, communicate openly with your other partners. Let them know your situation so they understand and can adjust accordingly. Role-play is about collaboration and ensuring that everyone feels involved and valued.

Skipping

In collaborative role-play, there's an agreed-upon order for replies to maintain the flow of the story. Skipping ahead of your turn without getting permission disrupts that flow and can leave other players feeling disrespected or ignored. Before breaking the established turn order, always check with everyone involved to ensure they're okay with it. Role-play thrives on coordination, so maintaining that structure keeps the story moving smoothly for all participants.

Low Effort Posting

Role-play is an art form, and it thrives when everyone puts thought and effort into their posts. Writing low-effort responses full of errors or that don't engage meaningfully with the story diminishes the experience for everyone. Take the time to contribute posts that move the story forward and respect the effort of your partners. Even when writing quickly or casually, aim for clarity and engagement to keep the quality of the role-play high and enjoyable for all.

Ghosting

Life happens, and it’s completely normal to need breaks or time away from role-play. However, going inactive without informing your partners can leave stories hanging and players frustrated. The key to maintaining healthy role-play relationships is communication. If you need to step away, just let your partners know. It’s better to be upfront about needing time off than to disappear and leave others waiting indefinitely. Most players are understanding as long as they’re kept informed, and they may even offer options for pausing or shifting the story until you're able to return.

Content Usage

All unique content placed on the site is considered shared under US legal circumstances.

Plots, families, organizations, and other content in which a member invites others to participate may continue to be used after that member becomes either inactive or is no longer part of the community. Members cannot enforce other members to cease using shared content with their own active characters, nor retire their characters. Remaining active writers have the authority to adjust the content as needed to accommodate, including character outcomes, disconnecting, and replacing with a newly named NPC. While it is recommended that they should respect the writer’s wishes, we believe the remaining active writer should also do what is best for their character and plots at their discretion.

Characters themselves are considered unique and belong solely to the writers. Upon inactivity or leaving the community, characters are archived. Situations that require that character should either be adjusted, or cut losses and move on to something new.

In the case that a writer filling a wanted is either inactive for 1+ months or leaves, the original Wanted ad writer has the authority to repost the wanted ad without edit.

If the writer of a wanted-ad character loses their original wanted-ad creator, they cannot request a replica replacement of the original character theirs is tied to. They will have to adjust and/or retcon, creating a new wanted ad for a clearly different character with a different FC, name, and build.

Terms of Membership are subject to change as the community evolves and grows. Please keep yourself familiar with them. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
