Daemons

Daemons are ancient, immortal entities who first appeared on Earth between 4000 BCE and 2000 BCE, often worshipped as gods for their mastery of astrology, medicine, and magic. They embody the idea of raw supernatural power, existing between the realms of mortals and higher beings. Over time, their presence diminished, but their bloodlines persist through human descendants, who sometimes inherit unique traits tied to their Daemonic heritage. These descendants may unknowingly carry the legacy of their ancestors, believing themselves to be Humans or Witches

About Daemons

Not to be confused with “Demons,” which in this world are mythical constructs of religious propaganda created by the Church. Consider Daemons the reality of what angels and demons truly are, and forget what you think you know about them. They can be both benevolent and malevolent, depending on their focus and goals.

The supernatural world is well aware of when Daemons first stepped into the world. It is said the skies lit with meteors falling like snow between 4000 BCE and 2000 BCE. The cause of these events remains entirely unknown. Where the lights fell, they absorbed into the ground, buildings, and objects, spreading light through them before dimming until no light remained. While the brilliance of the spectacle sent people to their knees in reverence each time, nothing tangible came of it—except for mortals struck directly by the light. The direct ones struck by the light were immortal, carrying singular names and possessing no memory of their origins. However, they held a profound understanding of the universal laws governing both the physical and ethereal worlds. They taught humanity the astrology, calendars & time, earthly science, medicine, agriculture, architecture, sorcery, divination and magic.

Those touched by the light were forever changed. No longer did they age, fall ill, nor were they the same as before. The miracles they performed inspired awe and fear. In ancient times, these individuals were worshipped as Gods, placed on thrones as Pharaohs, or even as village leaders or spiritual guides forever altering the course of religion and mythology on Earth. Over centuries, their stories twisted and evolved into the myths we know today. While most Daemons fell to Earth during this Ancient era, pure Daemons continued to trickle down until the last arrival around 1000 CE sparking new legions to shift the old.

Many Daemons were killed outright, either out of fear of their existence, due to their malicious intentions, or humans seeking to dominate as their numbers grew in the rise of civilization. When it was learned a God could be killed, the power dynamics shifted. Those who survived went into hiding, either among people who protected them or on their own.

It is believed by supernatural scholars that Daemons may be the very origin of both Witches and Vampyres. If not their origin, they were at least the catalysts that unearthed them. However, none of the remaining Daemons, if they can be found, have any definitive answers to offer.

Throughout history, many Daemons were hunted and killed by those who feared them. Some believed consuming their flesh would grant them power. It is estimated that thousands of Daemons perished, leaving only a small handful of the originals by the modern era estimated 100 worldwide. These few survivors remain heavily secretive, knowing the dangers of exposure.

Their descendants, however, are far more numerous, though most exhibit no traits of their ancestors, mingling among Witches. The genetics are incredibly recessive, often skipping generations before resurfacing. When these traits do appear, they are most often represented by unusual characteristics passed down from their original Daemon ancestor: eyes that range from white, unnatural hues to solid black, creating an ethereal or haunting gaze. Other physical markings may also manifest, such as distinctive birthmarks of unusual shape or strips of color in their hair, uniquely tied to the original Daemon from which they descend.

These unique traits led to centuries of fear and persecution. Many marked children were murdered or burned, and countless others were killed in mistaken identity, as similar features also exist within normal Human biology. Over time, the archaic reactions to kill the unknown faded, especially as such traits became rarer. Eventually, these stories became folklore rather than calls to action.

Today, descendants carrying the Daemon gene are rare and scattered across the world. Even fewer display the Daemon traits, however there are far more of them then their pure Daemon ancestors. Most of them cannot be distinguished from humans or Witches at all, and only in the manifestation of Daemon blooded abilities is the truth known. When it occurs they are simply called “Daemons” due to the near extinction of their pure ancestors.

The Physical

Daemons possess the full appearance of Humans. They are spirits that have permanently taken residence within Human vessels, rendering them immune to aging and illness. Despite this, they can be killed by any standard means of physical harm and bleed like any Human. As a baseline, Daemons do not universally possess abilities to overcome such harm, though some may exhibit enhanced healing capabilities. Note: Most Daemons are shorter, not because of their species but due to the fact that humanity as a whole were shorter than humans of modern era. While there are always outliers, it has just been something documented.

Their eyes reveal their true nature. Daemon blooded eyes are always unusual, ranging from white, through unnatural vibrant hues to solid black, giving them an ethereal or haunting gaze. Likewise, children or descendants with the active Daemon blood gene will carry the same color of their original Daemon Ancestor/parent as well as their immunity to illness.

It is possible for a hybrid child or descendant to develop more traits than their original Daemon ancestor, particularly if their lineage is mixed with another bloodline carrying different abilities. However, with new strengths come new weaknesses. These descendants are equally likely to inherit the vulnerabilities and issues of their Human lineage, lacking the immortality or illness immunity of pure Daemons. Despite these challenges, those with active Daemon genes can live up to 500 years aging far more slowly, especially if their lineage remains close to their Daemon parent.

Descendants and children of Daemons do not inherit these traits if their genes are recessive. In such cases, they exhibit the normal eye color of the original Human host or the partnered parent. Additionally, these recessive descendants are entirely Human in every other aspect.

Esoteric Traits

Daemons are unique in that their abilities are inherent and naturally provide a energetic boosts to those awakened around them. The boost gets around the need of being part of an elemental path of universal spells and abilities for 3rd parties. Their Daemon blooded relatives are entirely tied to the traits of their original fallen ancestor. Children and descendants of pure Daemons inherit these traits if their gene is not recessive. However, the way these abilities awaken can vary greatly depending on the individual's life experiences.

Some Daemons and their descendants possess heightened senses, strength, and durability, making them ideal guardians and aligning with the angelic and demonic lore of humanity. However, Daemons more commonly exhibit mental talents such as heightened intelligence, prodigious abilities, and psychic powers. While original pure Daemons intuitively understand the workings of the universe, their hybrid children and descendants do not share this innate gift. Instead, they must rely on spell weaving to harness and control their inherited abilities.

Spell weaving requires intention, focus, and energy, and it is a skill that hybrid descendants must practice and refine. Through this method, they can unlock their potential and overcome the natural limitations of their mixed heritage.

It is possible for a hybrid child or descendant to develop more traits than their original Daemon ancestor, particularly if their lineage is mixed with another bloodline carrying different abilities. However, with new strengths come new weaknesses. These descendants are equally likely to inherit the vulnerabilities.

Daemon abilities can be purchased in the store using Pounds (Points earned through site activity) to customize specific builds and linage.

Daemon bloodlines are the only species on Earth capable of creating enhanced artifacts. Those with this skill are often called architects of the universe, able to craft objects that defy what is considered possible. Even descendants without active genes are more likely to become Human prodigies, excelling in exceptional skills.

Consuming Food

Daemons eat as Humans do, but their metabolisms, specifically pure Daemons, are significantly higher, requiring more calories and nutrients to sustain their energy and abilities.

Very Talented

Daemon bloods are often prodigies or polymaths, naturally excelling in specific areas from "birth". For instance, one Daemon may possess extraordinary talent in music or painting, while another might excel in biological sciences. Over their extended lifespans, they may shift focus between disciplines or master multiple fields, becoming true polymaths over time.

Welcome to Earth

Daemons face the same struggles as humans. They can get drunk, high, experience depression, anxiety, or be ruled by their hormones. While they may not age, catch the flu, or develop cancer, they are not immune to other human problems like drowning in their own vomit.

Familia

Daemons have no rigid structure for building families or relationships. Each Daemon may develop their own approach, and their children or descendants might adopt those structures—if they are part of them at all. Unlike Vampyres, Daemons, much like Humans, are just as likely to abandon their offspring or be neglectful parents. Having fallen from the stars with no memory of their origin, most Daemons learned from the Human structures where they landed… or rejected them entirely to forge their own.

Pure Daemons are vulnerable yet exceptionally intelligent. When they first fell, many forged bonds with groups of people, often in cult-like structures of varying sizes. By sharing their gifts, unique to each Daemon, they gained followers who would protect them, offering a sense of safety. However, these same groups often led to their downfall, either by betrayal or through the destruction of their followers during ancient purges born of fear. Some of these groups, however, were clever enough to remain discrete and have survived through generations, evolving into secret societies. In the modern era, such structures may operate under the guise of religious or business organizations, with the Daemon positioned near the top—or wisely concealed behind a decoy leader. These arrangements are not without cost; in return, the Daemon provides support to their people, offering help, protection, magic, or other forms of aid to maintain their loyalty.

This dynamic is not universal. Many pure Daemons choose to establish traditional family structures similar to Humans, while others form clan-like systems akin to Vampyres. Some eventually grow to prefer solitude, valuing trust as a sacred and rare commodity.

Direct children and descendants of Daemons are not always in contact with their Daemon parent. Many may not even know of their Daemonic heritage, living entirely ordinary Human lives. The Daemon gene is highly recessive, often skipping several generations—or even hundreds to thousands of years—before manifesting again. This can make an active-gene child a family anomaly, especially in modern times. Some families, better at tracking their lineage, may attempt to “awaken” latent genes in their children through unusual methods or arrange marriages with the aim of producing an active-gene descendant.
Scholars of the supernatural world remain uncertain about what activates the Daemon gene. Some speculate that the answer lies in the arrangement of the stars, through astronomy or astrology, sparking numerous superstitions and old wives’ tales about how to produce an active-gene child.

Daemon blooded children or descendants are just as likely to rise like cream to the top. Often thy make far mor powerful Witches then awakened humans, having more ‘talent’ for magic, or even becoming progenies themselves of more mundane talents, especially those passed down from their Daemon ancestor, whether their gene is recessive or not. Such people who exhibit Daemon trait may quickly find themselves put on a pedestal, or faced with jealousy, given that their pure ancestors are near extinct, they are the next best.

Mating & Breeding

Daemons are not bound by any specific structure when it comes to mating, making their relationships highly individualistic, unlike the more rigid customs of Vampyres. Some Daemons may form partnerships for a season, only to grow bored or lose their partner to natural aging or other causes. Others may choose a partner—or multiple partners—to share their long lives with. Their children and descendants often adopt Human family structures based on the culture in which they are raised. Alternatively, within a Daemon’s Familia structure, they may follow the customs of their Daemon parent or the household head.

It is important to note that pure Daemons are not fully bound by Human ethics, a fact that has contributed to the demonology lore found in many religions. Because Daemons are so incredibly intelligent and understand the universe more intuitively, they will often reject human structures and institute their own.

Daemons can bear children with Humans, Witches, and other pure Daemons. Direct offspring of two pure Daemon parents are extraordinarily rare given how spread across the world they are and in such dwindling numbers since the ancient eras. While these children possess the traits of a half-breed, they are far less likely to inherit recessive genes due to the Daemons’ unique physiology. Witches with active Daemon blood are exceptionally rare but are often regarded as some of the most powerful, their inherited Daemon traits amplifying their innate magical abilities.

Due to their Human hosts and the Human nature of their descendants, Daemon bloods can also be sired by Vampyres. However, in the process, they lose all their Daemon traits except for their physical appearance at birth. A sired Daemon retains features such as their birthmarks, eye color, hair, and skin tone, though these are now paired with the characteristic "hellfire" glint visible in the night. (Refer to the Vampyre page for more details on such transformations.) Siring a Pure Daemon is considered a humbling punishment to Daemons, for they lose far more then they gain… but a Vampyre can mate with a Daemon, and likewise, keep their Daemon from death.

Daemon Laws & Ethics

Since the formation of “The Council”, Daemons have forged a set of laws to govern their own kind. In most cases, the laws and ethics are more for their protection against others and breaking the veil rather then internal conflicts.

Council Laws

  1. Existing Daemons Culture, Familia or community structure is to be respected. These territories are considered sovereign, even if they are in the middle of other species territories. New communities or territories must form in Human territory unclaimed or otherwise gain permission or contract with other species clans before settlement.
  2. Daemons must respect the laws, ethics and taboos of other species. Violation of cultural values forfeits Council protection.
  3. Pure Daemons are considered endangered and are under the protection of the council. Their territories shall not be breached without the Daemon’s consent. The Daemon’s community and Familia under their protection of structure is to be left alone. Violation of this law is an act against the council, punishable by trial by the council verdict.
  4. Daemons must maintain the veil by not drawing suspicion to Daemon kind. This includes seizing control through esoteric means, performing ‘miracles’ for humans, or otherwise showing themselves in any other way as not human to general public. Violation of this law is an act against the council, punishable by trial by the council verdict.
  5. Daemons are responsible for their communities and familia under their care and protection due to the nature of the veil being ‘broken’ among them. They are responsible for the actions of their communities and familia, and likewise must handle all situations else they forfeit protection of the council, or worse… it will be considered a violation of this law is an act against the council, punishable by trial by the council verdict.
  6. Daemons in a coven are governed by Witch’s law, not Daemon law.
  7. Daemons mated to or sired into a Vampyre clan are governed by Vampyre Law, not Daemon Law.
